Andrew Lesniewicz
Co-Owner of The Karuna House, Lead Trainer and Consultant at The Karuna House Training Institute, Therapist, M.A., PCC-S, Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor and Clinical Supervisor, Certified EMDR therapist, EMDR Approved Consultant, and Certified Sensorimotor Psychotherapist
"Because I deeply believe that counseling makes a profound positive impact in people’s lives, allowing for transformation, healing and growth, I have co-founded Karuna House, a wellness center, where practitioners’ work will embody ‘Karuna,’ any action taken to diminish the suffering of others."
It's not about the rupture but the repair. Andrew believes therapy is about the repair that allows us to unshackle ourselves from the procedural ways of responding to the world which no longer serve us. During the course of our experiences as humans, we are faced with varying degrees of challenges that causes us to have to adapt to survive. Sometimes these adaptions become ways of responding to the world that no longer work for us in our adult life, but we need assistance in resolving the wounds that caused them in the first place. It is in this place that Andrew believes counseling/therapy makes a significant difference. When one is going on this type of journey, it is important to have a guide who is well versed in the terrain and can assist in shining a light into those areas that are difficult to see, in order to illuminate areas that may need attention and healing… Healing one’s trauma doesn’t happen alone or magically but by having someone there to bear witness, offer support, empathy, validation and understanding, things that may have been missing.
After two decades in the mental health field, Andrew utilizes a variety of counseling and healing modalities to aid his clients as they move to achieve lasting and meaningful changes in their lives.
Andrew deeply holds that each one of us has the capacity to heal, change, and grow. This fuels his commitment as a counselor. His work is informed by his ongoing practice of the Japanese martial art Aikido, meditation and yoga. Aikido is often translated as the way of harmony, a concept that Andrew cultivates with clients to aid in the process counseling. Andrew trains at Shobu Aikido of Ohio regularly, teaching classes there twice a week.
Andrew has also reached out to a wider audience co-presenting at the American Counseling Conference, the All Ohio Counselors Conference, Wood County NAMI and radio spots on mental health and decreasing stress, as well as offering hypnosis seminars and numerous talks on mindfulness, coping with stress, grief, and humor.
Andrew continues to pursue professional training in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy and EMDR Therapy while developing professional and community based educational trainings to help broaden perspectives and knowledge bases on trauma and mental health issues with Karuna House co-founder Gretchen Leu.

“A story doesn’t live until it is imagined in someone’s mind…What does the story mean, then?…It means what you want it to mean…The purpose of a storyteller is not to tell you how to think, but to give you questions to think upon. Too often, we forget that.” -Brandon Sanderson, The Way of Kings
Your life is a story, with a rich history, captivating characters, an engaging plot line, and moments of joy and turmoil. When we experience the latter, most often we need someone to sit with us in the pain, empathize, remind us of our strengths, and visualize those moments of joy that are likely just around the corner.
Spencer is a licensed, professional counselor and earned his Master of Arts in Counselor Education from the University of Toledo. Historically a public-school choir teacher, Spencer noticed that his students often needed a listening ear, to know they were not alone, and someone to remind them of their worth. This led him to pursue a career in clinical mental health counseling, where he now works collaboratively with teenagers, college students, and adults to recognize the impact of their past experiences on the present and develop a more positive outlook for the future.
Spencer has experience working with anxiety, depression, PTSD, and OCD in both individual and group counseling formats. He began training with Karuna House to further his goals of working with teens who have experienced trauma. His approach involves cooperation with clients, wellness, mindfulness, and creative interventions to help clients meet their goals and make positive change.

Juanita Alvarado
M.A., LPC, EMDR Trained
“And just like the moon, you shall go through phases of light, of dark, and of everything in between. And though you may not always appear with the same brightness, you are always, always, whole.”
Pema Chödrön once said – “You are the sky, everything else -it’s just the weather” – and similarly, the journey of therapy is examining your worldview – your sky. Like the moon, you go through different phases in life, and like the stars, your constellations – you have a story. Looking up at the sky, like beginning therapy can feel vast and overwhelming – like an inexperienced astrologer who can see the stars but can’t read the signs.
As your therapist, I will sit with you, with a telescope, and help you piece together each star that tells your story. I will see the light and darkness of each of your moon phases, and help you to see that through both, you are whole. We will weather the storms, learn to dance in the rain (or at least locate an umbrella), we will celebrate the sunshine, and layer up for our midwestern winters. Through all our vastness, complexities, stories, and changes – like the sky – you are constant. I would be privileged to be a part of your journey of healing, and resilience, studying stories, and crafting new ones.
Juanita is a licensed professional counselor and earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in Disability Studies, and Master of Arts in Counselor Education with a concentration in clinical mental health counseling. She has experience working with teens in academic and community settings, individuals with disabilities in residential settings, patients in hospital settings, and adults in community mental health settings. Through these diverse settings, the themes of compassion, acceptance, and shame diminishing with the sharing of stories in safe spaces were illuminated. Juanita utilizes a person-centered approach that acknowledges the fallibility of the human condition and highlights the dialectic between people doing the best they can and having the capacity to do better. In other words – we can do hard things and grow – and we can begin this journey with patience, curiosity, and willingness to meet ourselves where we are and move forward one step at a time.
Juanita provides services to clients 18+ years old, has experience working with anxiety, depression, OCD, and borderline personality disorder, and was formerly a clinician in a Comprehensive-Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) team. Juanita began training with Karuna House to continue helping individuals heal from trauma. She has completed EMDR training and is in the process of certification. Her approach involves collaboration, creativity, and utilization of clients’ strengths to heal trauma, build resilience, balance acceptance and change, and develop a strong sense of self/self-worth to aid clients in reaching their goals.

Rebecca Black
Expert Level Sound Healing Facilitator Reiki Master-Teacher, B. Ed.
"Future medicine will be the medicine of frequencies” -Albert Einstein
"If you want to find the secrets of the universe, think in terms of energy frequency and vibration.” -Nikola Tesla
Rebecca is a Sound and Vibrational Healing Practitioner and Facilitator. She is passionate about supporting her clients on their healing journey toward greater self-acceptance, peace, freedom, joy, and creativity. She fosters empowerment, self-care, and trust in one’s own inner voice. She believes sound therapy is an integral piece for a healthy balance in one’s body, mind, and emotions. Rebecca offers individual private sessions, as well as group sound baths. Each private session begins with a check-in. Rebecca feels it is essential to understand what it is that her clients are experiencing as well as any intentions they may be bringing into a session. This empathic, intuitive tuning- in process sets the foundation for a very personal, safe, healing experience.
Crystal bowls, tuning forks, and other sound healing instruments are used throughout each session as the client lays on a massage table fully clothed. This encourages the mind to quiet and the body to relax, balance, and rejuvenate. This state of inner stillness allows for a deeper connection with self and a potential feeling of wholeness and harmony within. The body may entrain to the specific frequencies being offered for each client’s needs. Group sound baths and private sessions provide similar benefits including improved sleep, stress and anxiety reduction, pain relief, closer connection with self and others, physical, mental, and emotional balance, and improved mood. Each sound session experience may deepen the benefits. Sound is not only heard through the ears but throughout the cellular makeup of the body.
Rebecca is a graduate of the University of Toledo with a bachelors in education and she has over two decades of teaching in Toledo Public Schools at the elementary level. In addition to her teaching licensure, she has over 25 years of certifications in several sound and healing modalities including Reiki Master Teacher, Quantum Touch, Crystalline Consciousnesses Technique, Energy Vitality Technique with Tuning Forks, and Expert Level Sound Healing Facilitator.
She has used her certifications throughout Michigan and Ohio offering community sound baths, and private one-on-one sessions. Rebecca offers workshops and collaborations with yoga studios, wellness centers, arboretums, children’s summer camp sound experiences, and spiritual centers as well as for Imagination Station's Community Eclipse Celebration.
